World Cup: Conor McGregor reacts to shocking video of England and Wales' fans fighting in the streets of Tenerife
The FIFA World Cup is one of the most prestigious tournaments in professional sports. But there are times when off-the-field occurrenes overshadow the sport, and Conor McGregor is taking notice.
McGregor shared his reaction to the shocking video of English and Welsh supporters brawling in the streets of Tenerife, and even offered his assistance by tweeting:
"Coach, put me in."
The brawl took place following England's 0-0 draw with the United States in their second match in Group B. Based on what transpired, there will definitely be increased security when England and Wales play each other on November 29.
The former two-division UFC champion is no stranger to brawls and scuffles that result in objects being thrown. He was involved in the infamous post-fight brawl at UFC 229 following his loss to then-lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
He was also involved in a heated press conference with Nate Diaz that ended with 'The Notorious' and Diaz's team throwing water bottles at each other.
MMA community weighs in on the 2022 FIFA World Cup
With the FIFA World Cup being a worldwide event, it's no surprise that MMA fighters are following along and weighing in on who they believe will lift the trophy.
While speaking at an event in Toronto, Canada, former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov mentioned who he thought could win the tournament:
"This World Cup. I'm going to choose three teams... I think England is going to do very well. I think Brazil - Brazil is a very good team - and I think Netherlands."
MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, on the other hand, has been passionate with his support of the Canadian national team, who are playing in their first World Cup since 1986. He joined Andi Petrillo and former Canadian national team player Jimmy Brennan on CBC Sports and gave his bold prediction for the Canadians:
"I am so used to watching every major football tournament, every major...even if it's a club tournament or anything like that and we're (Canada) complete non-factors...and that has changed over the last few years. We're getting the six points, we're winning the group...we're finishing number one in the group and moving on to the round of 16."
