"You are junkie" - Belal Muhammad claps back at Conor McGregor for sly jibe at the welterweight champion’s UFC 310 withdrawal
The UFC welterweight title fight between Belal Muhammad and Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310 has been scrapped after the champion suffered a gnarly bone infection in his foot. The injury looks to be so severe that it required surgical treatment.
As of this writing, Muhammad is on heavy antibiotics, meaning training would be close to impossible. With that in mind, the bout has been canceled and it's still unsure if Rakhmonov will stay on the December card and get a new opponent.
@ChampRDS reposted the photos of the injury from Belal Muhammad's page. Conor McGregor, who also got his fight canceled this year due to an injured toe, reposted Muhammad's photos with a mocking caption:
"😂😂"
Never allowing anyone to have the the final word in a banter battle, 'Remember the Name' replied to the tweet with:
Belal Muhammad provides update on his injury situation and timeline for recovery
Belal Muhammad ufc-310-i-ll-back-soon" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-is-sponsored="false">delivered the bad news to his fans himself. On a hospital bed with an IV needle lodged to his right arm, the UFC welterweight champ updated the MMA world that he caught a nasty bone infection and the treatment would have him sidelined for a significant amount of time.
The Palestinian-American champion posted on X:
"Caught a bone infection in my foot .. had to put a picc line in my arm for iv antibiotics the next 6 weeks with no physical activity … Allahs plan is the best plan I’m sorry to everyone that were coming to see me Ill be back soon inshAllah"
With that, we won't be seeing the champ in action until next year. Perhaps an interim title fight could be put together in the meantime for Rakhmonov. Former champion Leon Edwards, Kamaru Usman, Jack Della Maddalena, and perhaps even Khamzat Chimaev could request a crack at the feared Kazakh.
There's still five weeks remaining until UFC 310. Though it's not ideal length for any fight camp, let alone for a fight with the undefeated Rakhmonov, we've seen other fighters in the past win big on short notice.
