“You should never doubt yourself” - Jonathan Haggerty says glimmering self-confidence stems from his ‘bulletproof mindset’
Jonathan Haggerty goes into every fight with the mindset that he can't and won't be defeated.
That'll most certainly be the case on Friday night when the reigning two-sport ONE world champion returns to the Circle for a highly anticipated headliner with one of the most dangerous strikers in the game. 'The General' will put his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title on the line against Superlek Kiatmoo9 at ONE 168 in The Mile High City—Denver, Colorado.
Facing one of his toughest tests yet, Haggerty stressed the importance of never doubting yourself and going into every fight in the right frame of mind. Haggerty told Sky Sports:
"Yeah, 100 percent [my mindset has to be strong for this fight]. You should never doubt yourself. You need to go in there with a mindset that, you can't be beaten, and you won't be beaten. Just a bulletproof mindset, really. And I'll do fine."
Haggerty rides into his second Muay Thai title defense of 2024, sitting on a six-fight win streak, including a trio of highlight-reel knockouts in his last three outings.
Superlek aims to end Jonathan Haggerty's impressive bantamweight run at ONE 168: Denver
While Jonathan Haggerty has been reigning over the bantamweight division with an iron fist, 'The Kicking Machine' has been holding things down at flyweight since making his promotional debut more than five years ago.
Having won his last 10 fights—including a ONE flyweight kickboxing world title-winning performance against Daniel Puertas last year—Superlek has bested some of the division's biggest stars while being one of the weight class' most active fighters.
Superlek competed five times in 2023 alone, all wins. 'The Kicking Machine' capped off his year with a unanimous decision victory over ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon—who defeated Haggerty not once but twice during their iconic feud at flyweight.
Since then, Superlek has added victories against Japanese kickboxing legend Takeru Segawa and Thai prospect Kongthoranee Sor Sommai. Will he add another big win to his resume in The Centennial State, or will 'The General' keep his 26 pounds of gold intact?
ONE 168: Denver will air live on Amazon Prime Video in U.S. primetime in both the United States and Canada on Friday, September 6. Follow this link for tickets to attend the event live at Ball Arena.
