"You're gonna see the best version" - Jarred Brooks insists he has a lot more in the bag after decimation of Gustavo Balart
Newly-crowned interim strawweight MMA world champion Jarred Brooks promised the fans that he's got a lot more tricks up his sleeve after decimating Gustavo Balart at ONE Fight Night 24.
The Indiana native put his grappling skills to the test against the former Olympian last Friday, looking better and stronger than ever before. His footwork and level change worked in his favor right from the start, forcing his game plan against Balart with quick precision and timing.
After that, it was the beginning of the end for his Cuban opposition. With less than a minute on the clock, Brooks submitted Balart by way of a rear-naked choke in the opening stanza.
Speaking at the ONE Fight Night 24 post-fight interviews, Brooks thanked his team for pushing him past his own limitations during every training session because, without them, he wouldn't have leveled up his grappling game to the highest standard.
Now, 'The Monkey God' feels confident that he can take on any guy with any set of skills at the highest level.
"I think my coaches think the same too. You give me a good striker, somebody well rounded, I think that you're gonna see the best version of Jarred Brooks at the end of the day. Gustavo is an inside clinch guy, and he likes to hold people up against the fence and almost stall."
The replay of ONE Fight Night 24 is available on demand for Prime Video subscribers in North America.
Jarred Brooks is looking forward to resuming his rivalry with the interim champ Jarred Brooks
'The Passion' Joshua Pacio has some unfinished business with Jarred Brooks after their rematch ended in a controversial fashion earlier this year.
At ONE 166: Qatar, Brooks, the former defending world champion, illegally slammed Pacio on his head while performing a takedown. Pacio was seriously hurt from the impact, unconscious for a brief moment until the referee stepped in to stop the fight.
Pacio was then awarded the victory and, by proxy, the strawweight MMA belt. With the Filipino star currently recovering from another injury, he's hoping to bounce back into the gym soon and give Jarred Brooks another run for his money. Speaking to ONE, 'The Passion' said:
"I have unfinished business with Jarred Brooks, and I intend to settle it in the future."
