"You would think he's just a sweetheart of a guy" - Joe Rogan praises "killer" Daniel Cormier for dominating two UFC divisions

American podcaster Joe Rogan praised former two-division UFC champion Daniel Cormier as a "killer" and a "sweetheart."

Earlier this week, Rogan released episode #2245 of 'The Joe Rogan Experience.' The UFC commentator's guest was former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich, who was impeached and served eight years in prison for public corruption.

During the episode, the 57-year-old and Blagojevich touched upon MMA and the UFC. The beloved podcast host spoke about how most fighters, including Daniel Cormier, are nice people. He said:

"The friendliest people that I know are all killers... Daniel [Cormier] was a light heavyweight champion and heavyweight champion. He was a two-division world champion and was dominating a weight class in Strikeforce that he didn't even belong in heavyweight. He's like 5'11." He's not a big guy. He's just such an insane tank of a human being." [1:39:35-1:40:19].

Rogan followed up by saying:

"His wrestling was so insane and just his will was so insane. Dominated two different divisions. He was a killer. The nicest f*cking guy you'd ever meet in your life. If you were hanging around him, you'd never believe that could pick up anybody in the room and smash them on their head. You would never believe it. You would just think he's this sweetheart of a guy."

Daniel Cormier and Joe Rogan on 'dangers' of weight cutting

Earlier this year, Joe Rogan sat down with fellow UFC analyst Daniel Cormier for episode #150 of the 'JRE MMA Show.' The UFC commentators discussed various topics about mixed martial arts, including the differences between weight cutting in the past and now.

Cormier compared his experience of cutting weight to his knowledge about what current fighters do nowadays. He said:

"I think [weight cutting] is the most dangerous thing in the world. With us, we would go on Thursday night. If I weighed 216 and I had to be 205 by Friday morning, I would get as low as I possibly could and then try to go to be. So, if I get to 207, I would hope that by the morning I'd be 206, and I only have to lose a pound in the morning."

Daniel Cormier followed up by explaining why fighters wait until weigh-in day to finish their cut:

"So, I'm dehydrated for twelve, thirteen, fourteen hours. Those guys today are going to bed at that weight, Joe. Ten, eleven over and waking up at four, five in the morning and cutting the weight because they said if they cut all that weight then they don't sleep, which I can attest to."

Daniel Cormier etched his name into the promotional history during his seven-year promotional tenure. Following his retirement in 2020, 'DC' has continued being a popular figure in the sport through commentary for the UFC.
