Eddie Alvarez gets mercilessly roasted by fans for challenging Michael Chandler to trilogy fight

Eddie Alvarez called out Michael Chandler for a trilogy fight in the aftermath of 'Iron's UFC 281 loss to Dustin Poirier. Chandler and Alvarez have already faced each other twice in Bellator. In 2011, 'Iron' submitted Alvarez in the fourth round. However, in the 2013 rematch, 'The Underground King' came out on top with a split-decision victory.

Alvarez was mercilessly trolled by fans for calling out the No.5-ranked UFC lightweight contender.

Hey brother @MikeChandlerMMA @ufc I Think it’s time for round 3 👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼🔪🔪🔪 Rest up Champ then give these Fans what they want .

Some fans took a dig at Alvarez's questionable chin, considering the former UFC champ was knocked out in three of his last four losses. @juusweet wrote:

@Ealvarezfight @MikeChandlerMMA @ufc Nobody want to see your glass chin get busted again.

Others believe that fans won't be interested to see Alvarez compete in the UFC again. @Svntoes328 wrote:

@Ealvarezfight @MikeChandlerMMA @ufc Lol no fans care to see you fight.
@Ealvarezfight @MikeChandlerMMA @ufc Unfortunately Dana didn’t sound too hype on signing you again. Said they’re only lookin for “younger talent”.
@Ealvarezfight @MikeChandlerMMA @ufc Why @ufc has to be a Bellator?
No point in @danawhite @seanshelby @Mickmaynard2 signing someone with 1-2 in another league .
If their fans want it , Let's @PFLMMA make it happen
@Ealvarezfight @MikeChandlerMMA @ufc The last person I wanna see in the ring is you Edward
@Ealvarezfight @MikeChandlerMMA @ufc I don't think the UFC is gonna sign a 38 year old who just lost his last fight. I'd like to see it, but it ain't happening
@Ealvarezfight @MikeChandlerMMA @ufc For real we need chandler to get an easy win and back in the top 5 mix.
@Ealvarezfight @MikeChandlerMMA @ufc I’ve been a fan for a long time and no disrespect but maybe when he retires from the ufc this is a possibility. For now let him progress towards the title . No reason to take a step back for now . All love Eddie

Chandler dethroned 'The Underground King' to win the Bellator lightweight title via fourth-round submission in their initial clash in 2011. However, Alvarez reclaimed the title in the rematch.

The UFC 281 loss against Poirier made it 1-3 in his last four for Chandler, albeit all of his losses came against elite contenders. When asked about it at the UFC 281 post-fight scrum, 'Iron' seemed open to a trilogy fight against Alvarez.

Dana White doesn't seem keen on bringing back Eddie Alvarez

Eddie Alvarez signed with ONE Championship in 2018 after ending his UFC journey with a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier. The former UFC lightweight champion recently returned to free agency after amicably parting ways with ONE with a 1-2 promotional record.

However, Dana White didn't sound too keen on re-signing Eddie Alvarez when asked about a potential trilogy fight between the former champion and Chandler. According to the UFC head honcho, the promotion is looking to sign newer talent with more championship potential. The 53-year-old said during the UFC 281 post-fight presser:

“Eddie hit me up a couple days ago, but no, we haven’t had any serious conversations... You know, I think that Eddie is at a point in his career where you know, we’re always trying to bring in young up-and-coming guys that hopefully could be world champions some day.”
