UFC News: Rashad Evans explains why his UFC 205 fight with Tim Kennedy was called off
It was revealed on Tuesday that the highly-anticipated match-up between, Tim Kennedy and former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans, was removed from the UFC 205 card in New York City this weekend.
It was reported, that the fight was cancelled, due to issues with Evan’s medicals and that Kennedy was not aware of this until he landed in ‘The Big Apple’ for his fight.
Evans recently spoke to MMA Fighting to discuss what exactly happened with his medicals and why he was taken off of the historical card and had this to say:
"I'm disappointed. I'm healthy. I don't want anyone worrying about me. I'm fine, physically speaking. Never felt better. It's just the commission and their rules. I guess they have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to this."
Evans is coming off of a vicious first round knockout loss to Glover Teixeira, in their main event clash at UFC on FOX 19 earlier this April, while Kennedy is also coming off of a knockout loss to Yoel Romero in the third round of their meeting at UFC 178 in 2014. The contest was Kennedy’s last inside the Octagon before returning to military duty.
He was scheduled to return to action against Evans at 205, but that fight will no longer take place.
Although Evans will be out of competition for the historic card, he has still expressed interest in fighting, noting that the recent struggles with his medicals, will not keep him out of the cage for much longer. It is still possible that the match-up between the two legends could be rescheduled for a later date, but for now the two will have to wait.
Although this particular fight has been called off, you can catch all the other action on Sony ESPN, Sony ESPN HD and Sony Six at 8:30 a.m (IST) on Sunday, November 13th.
