Sage Northcutt had ‘a good time talking’ with AEW’s Malakai Black
‘Super’ Sage Northcutt had the opportunity to roll with All Elite Wrestling star Malakai Black.
Northcutt is scheduled to make his long-awaited return to the Circle on May 5 when ONE Championship heads to the 1stBank Center in Colorado for their first event on American soil. Just weeks away from his first fight in nearly four years, the Texas native had the opportunity to work with one of professional wrestling’s brightest stars.
“Oh yeah Malakai Black, a pro-wrestler, he had some pretty cool moments too that he does in pro-wrestling,” Northcutt said in an interview with The MMA Superfan. “We just had a good time talking. He grew up doing martial arts, so that was a good time hanging out with him and talking about martial arts.”
Born in Alkmaar, Netherlands, Malakai Black is a lifelong martial artist having trained in kickboxing, pencak silat, and Muay Thai. As a professional wrestler, Black has masterfully incorporated his martial arts skills into his repertoire as a sports entertainer. This made him a unique addition to the WWE locker room where he got his first big break under the NXT label. In 2021, Black made the jump to AEW and formed a heel faction dubbed The House of Black.
Sage Northcutt, the photogenic fan-favorite, will have his work cut out for him when he returns to the cage at ONE Fight Night 10 as he is slated to square off with Pakistani mixed martial arts champion Ahmed Mujtaba.
Ahmed Mujtaba expects a well-prepared Sage Northcutt at ONE Fight Night 10
Ahmed Mujtaba expects Sage Northcutt to come into their ONE Fight Night 10 showdown well-prepared and determined to get back into the win column after a lengthy layoff. ‘Wolverine’ also issued a warning to Northcutt, letting ‘Super’ know that he will be ready to go and determined to spoil his homecoming party come May 5.
“Sage is a nice guy. Of course, he might be hungry for his comeback,” Mujtaba said. “He might be well prepared. But you know I’m in this game, and I don’t fall too simply, and I’m ready for this.”
Ahmed Mujtaba is riding a lot of momentum going into his bout with Sage Northcutt having scored first-round finishes in his last two outings inside the Circle. ‘Wolverine’ delivered a highlight-reel-worthy knockout of Rahul Raju at ONE: Unbreakable III and then followed it up with a submission against Abraao Amorim at ONE 163 in November. If he can make it three in a row against a marquee name like Northcutt, Mujtaba could emerge as a potential ONE world title contender.
