Sean O'Malley calls for Cejudo matchup amidst Aljamain Sterling injury rumors
Sean O'Malley is weighing in on the current UFC bantamweight title situation after Aljamain Sterling revealed that he is dealing with a torn bicep.
Sterling uploaded a video to his YouTube channel, where he confirmed injury rumors that his torn bicep is the reason why his bout with Henry Cejudo is yet to be made official. After hearing about the injury, O'Malley took to Twitter to try and make sense of everything and offered the promotion with an alternative, writing:
"Is AljoComain fighting Henry or not I’m confused ? He Said his bicep is torn. If that’s the case let me beat up Henry"
'Sugar' vs. 'Triple C' for an interim bantamweight championship would be a logical alternative for the UFC as they could still have the winner fight 'Funkmaster' in July. Prior to news of Sterling's injury, it seemed like the plan was for Sterling to defend his title against Cejudo in March, with 'Sugar' challenging the winner in July.
O'Malley and Cejudo had an exchange on Twitter last month as the Contender Series alum was waiting for the promotion to announce Cejudo vs. Sterling, writing:
"I wana fight in July at latest, so Aljo and Harry need to fight in March. Not April. Hustle up"
'Triple C' fired back with a response of his own directed at 'Sugar's controversial win against former UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan, writing back:
"Hey @SugaSeanMMA You should fight Paddy...the judges won't know who to rob."
It remains to be seen if Sterling's injury will prevent him from defending his bantamweight title against Cejudo. If he's unable to compete, the question will then be how soon 'Sugar' can get prepared to fight the former two-division UFC champion.
Sean O'Malley gives his thoughts on Jake Paul's impact on the PFL
Sean O'Malley weighed in on Jake Paul signing a multi-fight contract with the PFL and what that could mean for the promotion.
During episode #220 of the TimboSugarShow, 'Sugar' analyzed what the promotion could gain from having Paul on their roster. He mentioned that from a business standpoint, the PFL will need to do more to get fans interested in fighters other than 'The Problem Child', saying:
"Jake can't make us interested in someone else. We're interested in Jake. Jake fights any of them, we're gonna watch. Jake's telling you, 'You gotta watch this guy.' Jake's just trying to promote it and this guy's just not fu**ing fun, we don't give a f**k about him, we're not gonna watch." {10:48 - 10:58}
