Surging UFC featherweight warns Brian Ortega after 'T-City' claims to not know him

Brian Ortega is one of the most notable names at featherweight and likely remains within touching distance of earning himself another shot at UFC gold. However, he has no interest in facing a surging 145-pounder who he claims he doesn't know.

'T-City' hasn't returned to the octagon since a shoulder injury cut his highly anticipated bout against Yair Rodriguez short eight months ago. The matchup went to plan, as although he lost the striking exchanges, the fan-favorite managed to get the fight to the ground before his untimely shoulder issues.

In response to Ortega's recent interview with MMA journalist Carlos Contreras Legaspi, rising featherweight star Ilia Topuria fired shots at 'T-City' on social media. He insisted that he'd more than welcome a fight in Mexico if his fellow featherweight is interested:

"Brian Ortega says that he does not know me nor has he heard of me. Will you be afraid to meet me in the octagon? I have no problem going to Mexico and fighting there. I love Mexico and it would be a pleasure to make you a part of how I crush that r**arded head."

Ilia Topuria has made it public that he intends on facing Ortega in the near future as he looks to climb the divisional ladder on his way to earning a title shot.

The Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belts would undoubtedly put on a show if they were matched up. Given the Georgian's heavy hands, he could potentially want to keep this one on the feet where he likely has the striking advantage.

Brian Ortega's next fight: Will Ilia Topuria be next up for 'T-City'?

Ready to return to the cage in the near future, Brian Ortega could force his way back into title contention with a win in his next outing. But who could be next for the No.3-ranked featherweight?

Although an Ilia Topuria matchup would make for a brilliant affair, it remains unlikely for the Mexican-American as the well-rounded prospect is six spots behind him in the rankings.

Josh Emmett and Giga Chikadze could also be potential opponents for Ortega. Otherwise, the grappling wizard could prolong his hiatus and wait to see the result between Max Holloway and Arnold Allen in April.
