'The difference is this time I want to fight' - Rory MacDonald
Says Rory MacDonald who is aiming for the welterweight title shot against Robbie Lawler in their bout at UFC 189 on July 11.
This co-main event between ‘Canadian Pyscho’ and ‘Ruthless’ is a rematch of their UFC 167 faceoff of November 2013.
Robbie Lawler had defeated Rory MacDonald in their previous encounter by split decision in a three round fight at UFC 167. Rory admits his take on fighting with hovering injuries plus the lack of ‘fire’ to defeat someone like Robbie was the reason for his loss.
"Before that fight I was like, ‘Oh, I just kind of want this to be over.’ I wasn’t really interested in fighting. I just wanted to get it over and done with and just relax," MacDonald told MMAjunkie.
But now, Rory expects the opposite.
The Canadian has been lauded as championship material and now it’s his time to fulfill this task by proving to be one. He claims that the injuries and mindset are no more an issue and that he’s prepared for this fight.
"The difference is this time I want to fight; I’m looking forward to being in there and having the blood on my face and being in the heat of battle," MacDonald said. "I don’t think he’s as dynamic in his skills than me, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be a hard fight."
Needless to say, Rory’s skills have been polished over the time from his last battle against Robbie. He has won 3 consecutive fights against fighters ranked Top 10 in the welterweight division, thus working up to a title shot.
Meanwhile, Lawler also fought four times which included two title fights against Johny Hendricks. Not forgetting the fight he put up against Rory previously, Lawler will aim at giving ‘Canadian Psycho’ a tough battle.
To defend and to avenge is the theme, you be the audience.
