UFC 222: Holloway vs Edgar, a fresh start for Las Vegas and more
UFC 222 finally has a headliner as the ticket announcement for the same was made. The headliner is scheduled to be for the World Featherweight Championship that sees Max Holloway fighting again in just three months (Last fight vs Aldo, UFC 218) against his previously scheduled title defense opponent Frankie Edgar (Edgar pulled out due to injury, UFC 218).
Frankie Edgar is slowly turning into one of the UFC elites and had already held the UFC Lightweight Championship back in 2010 before moving to the featherweight division in 2012. However, Max Holloway is fresh from his title defense at UFC 218 and will be looking to extend his UFC Featherweight streak to a record 13 wins.
The current card features two more bouts. A middleweight bout sees C.B. Dollaway being pitted against Hector Lombard, with the latter looking to shake off his 4-fight losing streak and resuscitate his career in the UFC.
The list is completed by a heavyweight bout between Stefan Struve and Andrei Arlovski. Struve would look to rebound from his loss against Alexander Volkov in the main event of UFC Rotterdam 2017 while Arlovski would look to convert his last win into a winning streak of two post this bout. Both fighters have a strong profile in the UFC and a knockout is being expected in the battle of these two heavy hitters.
UFC 222 would be the first UFC event in Las Vegas for 2018 with the last event being UFC 219 which saw Cyborg defend her Women's Featherweight Championship. UFC would expect their home to turn up for the blockbuster main event, though it previously had rumors circling for a potential McGregor return.
Post a relatively disappointing 2017 in Las Vegas, with UFC 213 and UFC 216 both resulting in poor PPV numbers, gate, and attendance, UFC would be looking forward to UFC 222, hoping that it gives them a good start to 2018 in Las Vegas.
