UFC 235 News: UFC 235 press conference video released; Tyron Woodley and Kamaru Usman enter into heated altercations
What's the story?
Ahead of their championship welterweight clash slated for UFC 235, Tyron Woodley and Kamaru Usman were seen exchanging heated words during the UFC 235 press conference that took place this past Thursday, the 31st of January, 2019. UFC 235 is scheduled to take center stage on March 2nd, 2019, in what is expected to be a sold-out T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In case you didn't know..
Following his victory over Darren Till at UFC 228, Tyron Woodley went on to establish himself as one among the better welterweights to ever set foot into the Octagon. A much-awaited title fight against Colby Covington seemed to be hovering over the horizon, but fate was to bring Kamaru Usman into the picture for a well-deserved title shot opportunity. A clinical performance displayed by the 'Nigerian Nightmare,' against a durable Rafael dos Anjos, raised eyebrows of many critiques and fans alike, further convincing the president of the UFC, Dana White, to provide Usman with a chance to go for gold.
UFC 235 will also feature a main event title fight between UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, and the upcoming 205-pound prospect of the UFC, Anthony Smith. Just days after Jones' dominant victory over Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232, Smith and Jones were seen immersing themselves in a banter, something that eventually translated into both camps agreeing for a championship title fight at UFC 235.
The heart of the matter
During the recent UFC 235 presser that took place on 31st January 2019, UFC welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley, and Kamaru Usman caught the attention of many by entering into a verbal brawl with each other.
“I ain’t bringing 30 percent for you,” Usman said. I have a bigger shovel out here. When it comes to digging deep, ain’t nobody who can dig as hard as I can dig. I want you to bring your best game. My shovel is so deep. This is one thing you ain’t never seen from me. I ain’t backing up. When you hit me, I’m not backing up. I’m coming. I’m coming all night long.”
Tyron Woodley, who is the superior fighter in terms of experience between the two, had the following to say in reply:
“I’m your mentor,” Woodley said. “You talking back to your mentor right now. I haven’t seen a person on the roster who can do it, and you can’t do it.”
What's next?
With UFC 235 just a month away from coming into fruition, a stacked fight card has kept martial arts fans around the world, intrigued by the build-up. What are your predictions in regards to the co-main and main-event matchups for the welterweight and light heavyweight championships?
