UFC 287 fighter Dana White once compared with Conor McGregor suffers 5th straight loss

UFC strawweight fighter Cynthia Calvillo has been going through a rough patch in her MMA career lately. The San Jose native recently competed at UFC 287 and came up short on the occasion. With the loss on April 9, Calivllo is now on a five-fight losing skid in the multi-billion dollar promotion.

Calvillo's recent losing streak may come as a surprise to some MMA fans as the 35-year-old was once compared to the likes of Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey by Dana White.

Years ago, during a post-fight press conference, White had spoken about the similarities between the Irish superstar, Rousey, and Calvillo.

"There's been times in my career, the first time I met Conor McGregor, I said, 'Man, I don't know if this guy can fight but if he can even throw a punch, he's gonna be a rockstar. And Ronda Rousey, I had a 45-minute meeting with her and decided to do women's MMA and I feel pretty strongly about this one [Cynthia Calvillo] too," said Dana White.

Calvillo took on Lupita Godinez in the prelims on April 9. The fight went the full 15-minute-distance and ended with a split decision victory for 'Loopy'. The three judges scored the contest 28-29, 29-28, and 30-27 in favor of Godinez.

A look at Cynthia Calvillo's career in the UFC

Cynthia Calvillo made her professional MMA debut in 2016. After winning her first three MMA bouts, the 35-year-old made her UFC debut in March 2017 and defeated Amanda Cooper with a rear-naked choke in the first round.

After her successful debut, the San Jose native went on to win her next two encounters against Pearl Gonzalez and Joanne Wood.

Calvillo faced the first loss of her MMA career at UFC 219 when she was defeated by former champion Carla Esparza via unanimous decision.

The 35-year-old successfully bounced back from the loss and went undefeated in her next four outings in the promotion.

But then things went south as Calvillo lost five fights in a row against fighters like Katlyn Chookagian and Jessica Andrade.

The 35-year-old is currently in a tough spot and would likely need to return to winning ways in her next fight in order to stay with the multi-billion dollar promotion.
