UFC Middleweight champion Chris Weidman talks about Anderson Silva and fighting in India in an exclusive interview
Chris Weidman shocked the world when he defeated Anderson Silva last year, and ended his 7 year undefeated streak at UFC 162. Not only that, but he captured the coveted UFC Middleweight championship of the world, and told ‘The Spider’ that he was too cocky for his own good. If that wasn’t enough, he took on the legendary fighter once again at UFC 168 last December, which ended with a horrific injury for the former champion, who broke his left fibula and tibia, and had to forfeit the fight. Weidman won their second encounter via technical knockout, and is set to face Lyoto ‘The Dragon’ Machida, who is a former UFC Light Heavyweight champion at UFC 175 on July 5th.
Chris Weidman is considered as one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world today, and although he defeated Anderson Silva twice, the critics have always questioned the Middleweight champion. His next fight is believed to be the final test to silence his critics, as he will fight a former UFC champion in a week’s time. UFC 175 is set to be UFC’s biggest PPV of the year, with both UFC Middleweight title and the UFC women’s Bantamweight title on the line, as ‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey faces Alexis Davis.
Before the PPV however, Ratish Menon and I managed to put forward a few questions to the UFC Middleweight champion regarding his upcoming fight, and what he thought about fighting in front of the Indian audience. We also asked him about his thoughts on Lyoto Machida, and what he thought about fighting Anderson Silva for a third time.
When we asked about his thoughts on the fans wanting to watch Anderson Silva – Chris Weidman III, the champ said, “I would be open to it; if that’s what people want to see, then I’d definitely be open to doing it again.”
We then asked him what he thought about fighting in India, as UFC is planning to enter the country in 2015, to which he said, “That would be different. I have never thought about going to India in my life. But that would be pretty cool.”
UFC 175 is just days away and already promises to be one of the best PPVs of the year! We have more exclusive interviews coming up with the likes of Cung Le, Ken Shamrock and other MMA legends, so stay tuned!
