UFC/MMA News: Dana White teases Brock Lesnar's UFC return
What's the story?
Dana White has tweeted a picture of him alongside Brock Lesnar, who appears to be wearing a UFC t-shirt. White could very well be hinting at Lesnar's return to the octagon later this year.
In case you didn't know...
Brock Lesnar last appeared in the octagon at the UFC 200 pay-per-view event, which was held back in July 2016 in Las Vegas. Lesnar exhibited his remarkable wrestling prowess and secured a unanimous decision win against Mark Hunt.
However, the fight was later declared a 'no contest' when Lesnar failed a drug test after testing positive for Clomiphene, a banned substance. As a penalty, the heavyweight received a one-year suspension from USADA.
The heart of the matter
After getting suspended by USADA following UFC 200, Brock Lesnar shifted his focus back to pro-wrestling and has been performing in the WWE.
Lesnar's WWE contract is about to expire in a month or so after WrestleMania, which is slated to take place on April 8, 2018. As for the USADA suspension, it ended sometime during July 2017.
But since the heavyweight sensation had withdrawn from the USADA testing program, he would have to restart the same and undergo tests for the next six months to become eligible to compete in the octagon.
After seeing Dana White's post on Twitter, though, one can't help but think that he and Lesnar have indeed discussed a possible UFC return in the near future. The MMA promoter can be seen grinning, while the heavyweight superstar was wearing a UFC shirt.
What's next?
Dana White recently said in an interview with TMZ Sports that he would like to see Brock Lesnar come back.
Brock's been fun. When Brock Lesnar, you know, won the championship, it was fun. - Dana White said.
Given these developments, we just might see Lesnar competing in the octagon around the end of 2018, provided the heavyweight gets back into the USADA program.
Author's take
UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will be locking horns with the heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic in July 2018 at the UFC 226 pay-per-view. The heavyweight title will be on the line in this exciting super fight.
Knowing Dana White, it's possible that he will pit the winner of this bout against Brock Lesnar at the end of 2018. This will certainly make for a fascinating fight regardless of who Lesnar faces out of the two champions.
