UFC News: Canelo Alvarez responds to Jorge Masvidal's call-out
Jorge Masvidal may well be the face of the fight game at the moment but the world's best pound-for-pound boxer Canelo Alvarez isn't fazed by him. After beating Nate Diaz at UFC 244, Masvidal called out Alvarez and the boxer has finally responded.
In an interview with Little Giant Boxing, Alvarez said that he doesn't consider fighting an MMA fighter a challenge, so he will never do it.
"Yes it’s something attractive but it is not a challenge for me therefore it is not my priority.”
Alvarez feels that the reason MMA fighters call out boxers every now and then is for a huge pay-day, something that MMA fails to provide them.
“There’s no other reason. Because of the money. Because of the money, because of the business. That’s the reality. What other reason would there be? They would’ve started boxing from a young age if they really liked it.”
Alvarez is not a believer in cross-over match-ups and feels that MMA fighters and boxers should stick to their respective sports.
“With all due respect, I always felt that I have nothing to do in an MMA cage. I think the same if they get into a boxing ring. They have nothing to do. I respect what MMA fighters do in their sport. They’re great fighters. But boxing is a different thing.”
