UFC News: Colby Covington claims he would slaughter Ben Askren and no athletic commission would approve it
What's the story?
Looking to secure a title fight against current champion Tyron Woodley, it now looks like former Interim Champion, Colby Covington could very well find himself locked inside the Octagon against newest UFC signee Ben Askren.
In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, Covington decided to call out 'Funky' and put him on notice.
In case you didn't know...
Having made his UFC debut in 2014, Colby Covington has developed a notorious reputation by calling out almost the entirety of the UFC Welterweight Division. And since his Interim Welterweight Title win over Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC 225, Covington has been vouching for a title unification bout against Tyron Woodley.
The heart of the matter
Colby Covington might be vouching for a title shot against Tyron Woodley, however, there is also another man on the UFC roster who 'Chaos' would seemingly like to get his hands on and that man is non-other than new UFC signee Ben Askren.
While speaking with Ariel Helwani on his MMA Show, Covington gave his take on a potential fight against Askren, stating that no commission would be willing to approve a fight between the two Welterweights. (H/T: MMA Mania)
"Ben Askren, the only thing we have in common...I have a real belt, he has some belts from back in the day that don’t even matter anymore. But let’s be honest, no commission would approve this fight. He is not even ranked in the top 100. It would be a slaughter and it wouldn’t be competitive. If that 36-year old virgin builds himself up and becomes a draw, then no problem. I will send him back to the back of the line just like everybody else,’
What's next?
Colby Covington is expected to get his shot at Tyron Woodley's title from here onwards, however, a fight against Ben Askren could also be likely in the near future.
