UFC News: McGregor's coach wants him to fight Nate Diaz next

Destined to clash once again!

The world witnessed history as the ‘Mystic Mac’ Conor McGregor knocked out Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 to become a simultaneous two-divisional champion.

But keeping aside all the greatness, the one question that lingers in every fan’s mind is ‘who’s next for Conor McGregor?’ John Kavanagh who has coached The Notorious One since his struggling days wants McGregor to pick a final trilogy fight with Nate Diaz next.

The grand master of SBI Ireland spoke to Ariel Helwani during The MMA Hour as he stated the following:

“Now, I’m going to give you my fall opinion, I think the second best 145er is Max Holloway, in my opinion. And I think the second best 155er is Nate Diaz. That’s my opinion.”

He then went on to state his opinion on Nate Diaz’s abilities and predicted that he’d prevail over the top 2 contenders in the lightweight division, Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov:

“I think Nate would beat either Tony or Khabib,” Kavanagh stated. “I think he really turned a corner with the Michael Johnson fight. I think we saw a new version of him. I think he looked fantastic in both Conor’s fights.”

Kavanagh stated that if the power rested in his hands he would have given Diaz a third shot at McGregor but this time with a bonus, a UFC lightweight title fight. This fight would surely surpass UFC 196 and UFC 202 pay-per-view buys.

“That’s my opinion. My small, unimportant opinion. No need to tweet me your own opinions,” Kavanagh stated. “But that’s who I think the two best guys are.”

It’s obvious that he thinks highly of Diaz and thinks of him in the same league as McGregor, Kavanagh then went on to talk about the possibilities of McGregor’s next fight:

“Now, I understand Khabib is the number one contender and it’s probably gonna be him if that’s how the company works but for me, interest wise, the Nate fight would interest me greater because of that.

If it’s Tony, if it’s Khabib, great. They are two fantastic fighters.”

The only person left to be convinced to make the final match of the Diaz-McGregor trilogy happen is none other than the UFC President, Dana White, who was previously against the trilogy fight between the Stockton native and Mystic Mac.
