UFC News: Conor McGregor still showing off two belts amidst Game of Thrones rumors
Call it what you will, stripped off a title, an honorary relinquishment of a hard fought belt; Conor McGregor is still walking around carrying both ‘his’ belts.
The Irishman became the first dual-weight world champion in history at UFC 205 but his glory was short-lived as Dana White, the President of UFC, was quick to declare that the Notorious one has to give up his 145-lbs belt.
White then announced that Jose Aldo would now be the Undisputed Champion and then upgraded the UFC 206 bout between Anthony Pettis and Max Holloway to an interim title fight. Known for his notoriety, McGregor earlier said the UFC would have to gather an army if they were going to snatch his belts away.
Thus far, it appears no army has shown up at McGregor’s doorstep.
McGregor, himself has made it clear to his fans and the world that he is indeed the King, and posted a picture on Instagram yesterday, where he was holding the Lightweight Title he recently won – along with the Featherweight belt he supposedly gave up, with the caption, ‘The M************ Champ Champ!”
The motherfucking champ champ! @jetsmarter
The 28-year old was quick to make it clear in a Q&A with fans at Belfast over the weekend,
“They're trying to strip me,” he explained.
“Well, I ain't stripped. I still got that belt. That belt's sitting in my home right now. I'm still the two-weight world champion. Someone's got to come take that off me. I'll say to the UFC and I love the company — you're fooling nobody. You're fooling nobody with that. Best of luck to them. I still got them belts. Somebody's got to come take them belts from me physically.”
Not having defended the Featherweight belt in over a year, McGregor has now lost it to Jose Aldo, who is slated to fight the winner of the Pettis – Holloway matchup.
Conor, in the meantime, is rumoured to be appearing in one of the last two remaining seasons of HBO Fantasy Drama Game of Thrones, according to the Belfast Live. This wouldn’t be McGregor’s first tryst with the TV series, having earlier sparred Hafþór Julius Bjornsson – The Mountain – in a video that gathered over 20 million views on YouTube.
