UFC News: Cris Cyborg says she will fight Amanda Nunes in July, despite scheduled title defense at UFC 222

What’s the story?

UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion Cris Cyborg has recently claimed on her official Instagram account that her scheduled super fight against current Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes isn’t entirely out of question, despite Cyborg being scheduled to defend her 145-pound championship at the UFC 222 pay-per-view.

In case you didn’t know…

Following Cris Cyborg’s successful FW Title defense against Holy Holm at UFC 219, the current Featherweight Champion laid out a challenge to Amanda Nunes and according to Cyborg’s social media accounts, the fight was originally slated to take place on the 7th of July in Las Vegas, as part of UFC 226. However, it apparently seems like the UFC fans will not get the chance to witness this mega fight between Cyborg and Nunes, due to Cyborg being scheduled to defend her Featherweight Title at UFC 222 against Yana Kunitskaya.

The heart of the matter

In two latest Instagram stories, Cris Cyborg posted and explained in both her native Portuguese and English language, that the sole reason why she decided to step up to the plate for an injured Max Holloway is to help the UFC 222 fight card. However, additionally Cyborg also somewhat warned Amanda Nunes by stating that fighters like Cat Zingano and Ketlen Viera are gunning for her and the Bantamweight Championship.

Lastly, Cyborg also confirmed that their fight is still slated to take place in later this year and the two women will indeed she will indeed face-off against each other in July.

What’s next?

Cyborg’s next title defense will take place on the 3rd of March, 2018, when she defends her FW Title against UFC’s newcomer Yana Kunitskaya.

Fans have been eagerly waiting to see the fight between Amanda Nunes and Cris Cyborg and it looks like Cyborg is indeed fully determined to put her title on the line against the current Bantamweight Champion.
