UFC News: Dana White claims UFC 205 has set a new MSG live gate record
It was expected that UFC’s first event in New York City was going to be a huge success, but no one could have predicted that the show would set new records.
In an interview with FOX Sports, UFC President Dana White has declared that the upcoming event will ultimately have the biggest live gate in the history of UFC and Madison Square Garden:
"All the legendary fights that have been held there, all the legendary events and we actually broke the gate record for Madison Square Garden so, so far so good, I'm excited."
This indicates that UFC has already shattered the records of all the iconic fights that were hosted in the Madison Square Garden.
The current live gate record at the arena was created during the boxing match between Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield in 1999. With over 21,000 fans in attendance for the event, $13.5 Million was collected from ticket buys.

The current biggest live gate record of UFC was generated at UFC 129 in 2011. The show, which has headlined by the fight between Georges St-Pierre and Jake Shields, had a total gate of $12,075,000 with more than 55,000 in attendance.
On November 12, UFC 205 will be live from Madison Square Garden. With three title defences in the main show and several former champions and contenders stacking up the preliminary card, White comments :
"It's the biggest, baddest card we've ever done in the history of the company. We've been in all the biggest, best arenas all over the world — Madison Square Garden's a big deal.”
In the main event of the evening, Eddie Alvarez will defend his UFC Lightweight Championship against the current Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor. It will be the second time in UFC history when two reigning champions of different weight classes will compete.
