UFC News: Dustin Poirier makes a bold prediction regarding Conor McGregor's UFC future
What’s the story?
While speaking with MMA Fighting in a recent interview, UFC Lightweight Dustin Poirier made a very bold prediction regarding his adversary Conor McGregor and his UFC future, by claiming that “The Notorious One” will be stripped off the Lightweight Championship before the upcoming UFC 223 pay-per-view.
In case you didn’t know…
UFC 223 is slated to take place on April 7th, 2018 and will be headlined by two title fights as current Strawweight Champion Rose Namajunas gets all set to defend her championship belt in a rematch against Joanna Jędrzejczyk.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, the UFC Lightweight Title will also be up for grabs as the Interim Champion Tony Ferguson gets all set to collide with the undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov in the main event of the PPV.
The heart of the matter
Ever since winning the UFC Lightweight Title off Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, “The Notorious” Conor McGregor is yet to defend the 155-pound title inside the UFC Octagon and prior to the UFC 223 event, McGregor’s long-term rival Dustin Poirier has made a bold claim by stating that the Irishman will be stripped off the championship belt by the UFC management right before the UFC 223 event.
“I think they’re stripping Conor here, and they’re going to fight for the real belt. This sport is a crazy thing, and what happens, it’s unpredictable. But I think the winner of Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib is going to be the real, undisputed UFC lightweight champion.”- Poirier stated.
UFC President Dana White recently also claimed at a press conference that Khabib and Ferguson will be definitely competing for the Undisputed Championship, however, the promotion is yet to confirm anything further on this developing news.
What’s next?
UFC 223 is scheduled for April 7, 2018, and as of right now both Ferguson and Khabib currently combine to have the best and second-best win streaks in the LW division, with Ferguson having won 10 straight fights, whereas, his Russian counterpart has a win streak of 9 fights in the UFC.
Meanwhile, as for Dustin Poirier, he is currently slated to face-off against up and coming fighter Justin Gaethje.
Author’s Take
Both Ferguson and Khabib, in my opinion, are two fighters who have the champions mentality and are capable of leading the 155-pound division from the front.
