UFC News: Georges St-Pierre in negotiations with UFC again

Former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre is now back in negotiations with the UFC for his mixed martial arts (MMA) return after joining the MMAAA.

Former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre has been in headlines across the mixed martial arts (MMA) news wire after aligning himself with the Mixed Martial Arts Athletes Association (MMAAA) to fight for better working conditions for the promotion’s fighters.

GSP recently spoke to TSN to discuss his involvement with the new fighter’s Association, and revealed that after the announcement of the group was made the UFC actually reached out to the Canadian star to renew their negotiations for the former champion’s return to Octagon action:

"No, no it doesn't mean I'm done with the UFC. Like other members, like Cain Velasquez, Tim Kennedy, Cowboy Cerrone, they're all seasoned fighters. Doesn't mean I'm done. Actually, the night that we launched the association we received a letter, Rodolphe [Beaulieu] received a letter - my agent - from the UFC lawyer saying that they want to renew the negotiation with me because at the point where I was before the negotiation, the communication was cut. So we didn't have any kind of communication."

St-Pierre hasn’t competed since his split decision victory over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 in 2013, in which the Canadian announced his retirement soon after the win to take some time off from the sport and pursue other ventures.

Now that St-Pierre has done a few things outside of fighting he appears to be ready to return to his fighting ways, while assisting the MMAAA in fighting for better working conditions as well.

Plenty of fights await St-Pierre upon his return, as he could possibly jump right back in to the title picture against current 170 pound champ Tyron Woodley, or a second bout with longtime rival Nick Diaz who is also making his return to action.

Regardless of who the Canadian phenom returns to the Octagon against, it will certainly be a spectacle for all MMA fans to witness.
