UFC News: Georges St-Pierre could return for a mega-fight, says coach Firas Zahabi
Arguably the greatest fighter ever, Georges St-Pierre might come out of retirement for one last hurrah according to his coach Firas Zahabi. GSP retired earlier this year and since then has consistently refuted the rumors of returning to the cage. However, his coach Zahabi claimed that GSP is still in peak condition and could be ready for taking a fight at the shortest notice. (h/t MMA Fighting)
Speaking to Joe Rogan on the latter's podcast, Zahabi said that GSP is the world's greatest martial artist and he is ready to step in if either Colby Covington or Kamaru Usman get injured ahead of their bout at UFC 245.
“He’s [St-Pierre] a machine. Dude, I’m telling you, if Usman or Colby gets injured. I don’t want to talk for Georges but man, he can kill anybody. He can kill anybody this man. He’s the world’s greatest martial artist. He’s a monster. He loves to train. Saturday he trained, he finished all his rounds, and then he coached some blue belts and purple belts, just kind of hanging out with them, talking technique. The guy loves this stuff.”
Zahabi further revealed that he thinks the prospect of a mega-fight can bring GSP back inside the Octagon.
"I think the thing that’s going to motivate him is a megafight. He doesn’t want to be champion again and fight every three-four months. That’s done. It’s not gonna happen no more. Invite him back for a mega-fight and see if you could entice him because he’s a competitor. He’s still training, he’s still ripped, shredded, fighting. He can do five rounds. Maybe he can’t do five rounds right away but he [only] needs a few weeks and then he’s doing five rounds. He’s close to being there. He can get in fight shape. He’s just a monster.”
Zahabi could be hinting at a fight against the reigning UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov or the former UFC 'champ-champ' Conor McGregor.
