UFC News: Jorge Masvidal says he traumatized a former champion during training sessions
Jorge Masvidal recently spoke to Yahoo Sports and the BMF of the UFC shared his views about his former ATT teammate Colby Covington during the interview.
There was a time when Covington and Masvidal were friends who were under the American Top Team banner. However, their relationship got sour over time as they rose up the ranks in the UFC.
Covington, despite his impressive record, is one of the most hated fighters in the game. The former Interim UFC Welterweight Champion has taken a few pages out of the pro wrestling playbook. He has been playing an obnoxious character who makes the most preposterous statements known to mankind. To his credit, the new gimmick has worked in his favour and he has risen to become a bankable star for the UFC.
Covington never shies away from taking shots at other fighters and Masvidal highlighted Covington's modus operandi of garnering attention to himself by verbally attacking other fighters.
He can’t generate attention by himself so he has to mention your name, this guy’s name, that guy’s name, ‘all these guys are on steroids,’ there’s no proof, no validation to what he’s saying. That’s just the type of person he is so once he opened his mouth, I’m not going to keep mine shut.”
Masvidal alluded to the fact that he put Covington through a lot of trauma when they trained together at the ATT gym.
“The guy has his wires crossed, especially when it comes to me. He got to train with me a little bit so you can imagine the trauma I put him through." H/t Credit: BJPenn
Colby Covington will take on Kamaru Usman for the undisputed Welterweight Championship in the main event of UFC 245 on December 14th.
Masvidal, who has three stoppages to his name in 2019, could face the winner of the aforementioned title fight. However, Gamebred is also focussed on having big-money fights against bigger stars such as Conor McGregor and the Diaz brothers.
If Covington does manage to dethrone The Nigerian Nightmare at UFC 245, then the UFC must book him against his former teammate to settle the scores once and for all
