UFC News: Jose Aldo's coach, Andre Pederneiras, says the UFC is giving him no choice but to fight
Former UFC featherweight champion, Jose Aldo, desperately wants out of his UFC contract in order to pursue other interests outside of the world of MMA, but it seems as though the promotion does not want to allow this to happen to their Brazilian star.
Aldo, along with his manager and head coach, Andre Pederneiras, have been meeting with the UFC in Las Vegas, for quite some time now, to try and hash out a deal to terminate his contract. However, Pederneiras recently told Brazilian news outlet Combate, that those negotiations have proven to be unsuccessful thus far:
“Right now we have this Pettis vs. Holloway fight, and there’s Conor’s decision, too. We can only know what’s going to happen after that. Aldo wants to retire in order to do other things, but in these talks we had with the UFC, it became quite clear that they will not let him go to pursue that.”
Aldo’s frustration with rival Conor McGregor’s reluctance, to give him a rematch has led to ‘Scarface’s’ request for a UFC release, as he desperately wants his shot at redemption for the devastating loss.
The pair met in the main event of UFC 194 to unify the featherweight titles, where the heavy-handed Irishman knocked out Aldo in 13 seconds to become the undisputed 145-pound champion.
Since then, Aldo has rebounded with a unanimous decision win over Frankie Edgar at UFC 200, to become the interim featherweight champ. However, instead of another unification bout with McGregor, the SBG product has instead chosen to challenge for a second title at UFC 205, when he takes on Eddie Alvarez in the main event.
For now, it seems Aldo will have to wait for the featherweight division to settle down, as all the top contenders are currently booked with bouts of their own, and perhaps another crack at ‘The Notorious One’ will present itself shortly.
