UFC News: Khabib Nurmagomedov's father gives a major update on Tony Ferguson fight
The inevitable meeting between UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson seems to finally be happening, and hopefully, fifth time is a charm. As you probably know, their fight has been scheduled on four different occasions, only for all of them to be canceled.
However, following Nurmagomedov's dominant win over Poirier and Ferguson's continued 12-fight win streak (that last saw him finish Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone and remain undefeated for 7 and a half years).
ESPN's Brett Okamoto recently revealed that the targeted date for their fight is April 18th and is expected to be at Brooklyn, New York, in the Barclays Center - the same venue as their canceled fight last year.
Either way, we're closing in on the fight and Khabib's father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov gave a big update on Instagram, stating that Khabib has signed the contract. He also called it a "dream fight".
"We signed a contract and move towards the goal to become the best regardless of weight category. And this fight is more than ever suitable for becoming the best. Both go on oncoming courses, and I want to say that in UFC I have never two met fighters both having 12 victories in a row. I call it a dream fight for all mixed martial arts fans. We will do our best to bring victory to our fans and Russia, and the result for the almighty."
Usually, when such announcements are made about signing a contract, it's a tactic from one side to pressure the other to sign fast. ESPN reported that Ferguson has yet to sign, pending a few negotiations, though the fight is still expected to happen. The ball is now in El Cucuy's court to put the pen on the dotted line.
The eternal question asked by MMA fans about this fight is "How long must we wait?" and the answer seems to be just shy of five months.
