UFC News: Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson now a "done deal" following contract negotiations
How long must we wait? Five and a half months is the answer as April 18th has long been rumored as the targeted date for the meeting between UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson.
As you probably know by now, the two men have had a fight scheduled on four different occasions, including March 2017 and April 2018 but every single time, the fight has gotten canceled due to one or the other pulling out.
Injuries have led to some terrible luck with the fight and with Nurmagomedov having cleared two top contenders in Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier and Tony Ferguson keeping his streak intact to 12 wins in a row.
Naturally, this has led the UFC to inevitably put the two men together, and up until the past hour of this writing, it seems as though only Nurmagomedov had signed a contract and not Ferguson. Khabib's father Abdulmanap had posted on Twitter that the Champion had already put the pen to paper in what seemed like a tactic to pressure Ferguson.
Whether it worked or not, we can't say for sure, but Ferguson went with his team to Las Vegas to meet with the UFC in person to discuss the deal. According to Brett Okamoto of ESPN, that deal has already been reached. Okamoto tweeted that El Cucuy has finally signed the contract, with the official announcement from UFC expected soon.
The first half of 2020 is already looking incredible stacked. Conor McGregor vs Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone is set to headline the first PPV card of the year UFC 246 while Jon "Bones" Jones defends the Light Heavyweight Championship against Dominick Reyes in early February.
While March's PPV isn't known yet, UFC 249 (or 248, if March doesn't have a PPV) will be headlined by the dream Lightweight Championship fight. Is fifth time the charm?
