UFC News: Michael Chiesa says Jorge Masvidal should fight boxer Canelo Alvarez
MMA fighters do not shy away from taking on combatants from other fight sports. Aside from the fact that many UFC and MMA fighters have crossed over to professional wrestling, there are some fighters, such as Conor McGregor, who have also tried their hand at other sports.
McGregor famously fought Floyd 'Money' Mayweather in a boxing match. Although he was unable to pick up a win, the Irishman still walked away with a massive payday.
On the same lines, UFC welterweight contender Michael Chiesa feels that there is an opportunity for another massive crossover fight between Canelo Alvarez and the BMF titleholder, Jorge Masvidal.
Michael Chiesa on Jorge Masvidal fighting Canelo Alvarez
Chiesa believes that Masvidal has a lot of momentum at the moment and can do whatever he pleases. If 'Gamebred' wants a title fight, he can get that, but he can also secure a boxing match with Canelo Alvarez.
“Now, the things you can do with Jorge Masvidal, screw it, set up him in a boxing match. Jorge is in a great position that he can be whatever he wants to be. If he wants to jump into the title fight after (UFC) 245 he can do that. If he wanted to get a boxing match with Canelo Alvarez, you could probably make it happen. People love these crossover fights, I don’t disagree with them at all. He’s in a good position, and Nate (Diaz) is, as well, and both guys deserve it.” (h/t: MMA Junkie)
Chiesa went on to say that fighters like Nate Diaz and Masvidal 'deserve a big payday' and that these are the kinds of fights fans want to see.
