What's the story?

UFC Lightweights' Nate Diaz and Khabib Nurmagomedov have developed quite the rivalry with each other within the past several years and despite not having squared off inside the UFC Octagon, Diaz and Nurmagomedov definitely still seem to be on each other's bad sides.

In case you didn't know...

Nate Diaz was supposedly scheduled to make his Octagon return at UFC 230 in late 2018, however, after his slated opponent Dustin Poirier pulled out of the fight, Diaz's highly awaited return never really got to happen and the Stockton based fighter is yet to step into the Octagon since 2016.

Diaz's rivalry with Nurmagomedov initially began a few years ago when the two Lightweight fighters ignited a heated brawl between their teams in Las Vegas, in a fight which also involved Nate's older brother Nick Diaz as well.

The heart of the matter

In a recent tweet, Khabib Nurmagomedov took a jab at his arch-rival Conor McGregor by posting a photo of the current UFC Lightweight Champion making the former two-division UFC World Champion tap-out to a neck-crank submission hold in their historic UFC 229 fight.

Nurmagomedov's tweet got the attention of Nate Diaz, who replied 'The Eagle' by claiming that he seemingly slapped the current champion's head and his team wasn't able to do anything about it.

In response to Diaz, Nurmagomedov posted a clip of the brawl and noted that Diaz was hiding behind security and ran away like a coward.

What's next?

As of right now, Nate Diaz and Khabib Nurmagomedov's future in the UFC is still uncertain. Nurmagomedov, who is coming off a win and successful title defense over Conor McGregor, is likely to make his Octagon return in 2019.

As for Nate Diaz, his future in the Octagon remains pretty uncertain and the Lightweight star might not return to the UFC after all.
