UFC News: Nate Diaz open to a possible match against Tyron Woodley
What’s the story?
In a recent interview with ESPN, Nate Diaz finally broke his silence about his UFC career, as the Stockton native stated that he is currently open to the idea of facing off against current Welterweight Champion, Tyron Woodley.
In case you didn’t know…
Nate Diaz hasn't stepped foot into the UFC octagon since his loss to Conor McGregor at UFC 202, two years ago. This was also Diaz’s rematch against “The Notorious One” from their first fight at UFC 196, which was Diaz’s biggest career win till date, when he choked out McGregor in the second round.
The heart of the matter
Two weeks ago, Nate Diaz posted on his Instagram account that he is currently eyeing a potential return to the UFC sometime between May and June, as he prepares to step into the octagon for the first time since his loss to Conor McGregor in August of 2016.
However, on Wednesday evening. Diaz stated in an interview with ESPN that he is indeed interested in taking up a fight against current Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley, who is currently on a three-fight undefeated streak.
“I’m getting to the point where I’m sick of not fighting; I’m not getting any younger. I put that tweet out saying I wanted to fight in May or June, but I didn’t say who because I was weighing my options. And now, Woodley is my best option," Diaz told ESPN.
Meanwhile, Woodley, on the other hand, has also said that he is open and interested in taking up a match against Nate Diaz, despite the fact that Diaz has been absent from the 170-pound division for a while now.
What’s next?
Diaz and Woodley are currently open to a matchup against each other at UFC 226, which takes place on the 7th of July, 2018, at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada.
Author’s take
I believe Nate Diaz’s return fight should be at the Lightweight division against former champion Eddie Alvarez, and Diaz vs Woodley is a mismatch of sorts.
