UFC News: Rose Namajunas finally set to defend Championship after a year
What's the story?
The UFC is about to see the return of one of its champions after more than a year on the sidelines.
UFC has announced that Rose Namajunas will be facing her opponent, Jessica Andrade in a fight in hostile territory in Andrade's home country of Brazil at an upcoming UFC event. The report was confirmed by MMA Junkie.
In case you didn't know...
Rose Namajunas won the UFC Women's Strawweight Title when she defeated Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 217, before defeating her again in a rematch at UFC 223. Since then, Namajunas has been on the sidelines, with six wins in her last seven fights.
Her future opponent, Jessica Andrade has a food record of her own, having won three fights in a row, most recently when she dropped Karolina Kowalkiewicz in the first round of their fight at UFC 228.
She will be looking to continue her good run against the Champion.
The heart of the matter
According to reports, UFC 237 will see Jessica Andrade face Rose Namajunas for the UFC Women's Strawweight Title in a pay-per-view event at Brazil. The location, i.e. venue or city is yet to be confirmed for the event, although it is set to take place on the 11th of May.
The fight will see Namajunas defend her title for the second time, in her reign as Champion. Coincidentally, the fight will also be Andrade's second shot at a UFC title in her career.
Andrade is on somewhat of a roll, defeating three fighters on the drop. Namajunas will have to remain aware of what she's up against if she is to avoid a similar fate.
What's next?
Rose Namajunas is finally set to return to the Octagon after a year away, when she faced Jessica Andrade in Brazil at UFC 237 on the 11th of May, 2019.
