UFC News: Chael Sonnen says McGregor will do all it takes to fight Mayweather by 2017
The dream fight that everyone has been waiting for is the clash between the champions of two separate combat worlds, Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather. The two have only been exchanging words online, often trying to take a shot at each other.
Former UFC superstar, Chael Sonnen weighed-in on the situation, saying that he believes The Notorious one will try everything he can, to get Floyd Mayweather to fight him.
The ESPN analyst had quite a bit to say about McGregor’s plans, here’s what he said: (courtesy: bjpenn.com)
"In the short-term.. Let me give you the short-term answer because long term, look, the sky is the limit for Conor. Nobody knows what he wants to do. He does have a contract with the promotion. Ultimately, he will need Dana White on board for whatever he wants to do as long as he is under contract with the UFC.”
“What Conor is telling people —and we are only as good as the information we are given — what Conor is telling people privately —he hasn't done it publicly yet — but he is saying, 'Look, with a win here tonight, should I beat Eddie (Alvarez), I'm going to take some time off and I'm going to do everything I can to get the boxing match with Floyd Mayweather,” Sonnen went on to say.
McGregor has indeed cemented his legacy by being the first to hold two UFC titles simultaneously. Now, the only big ‘money’ fight left, besides Nate Diaz, is probably Mayweather.
Sonnen continued to say that Dana White may be open to listening to what Mcgregor wants to do when it comes to the super fight
"Allegedly, now again the only person that can sign off on this contractually is Dana White to come in and promote. Allegedly. Rumor. Dana White is a little bit open to the idea to at least hearing what it is he wants to do instead of having a closed door. So leave the speculation at that. I happen to think there's some legs to it, myself.”
The UFC President has hinted in the past, on the Dan Patrick show, that if the two superstars were ever to collide then, it would have to be inside the Octagon.
A match between the two superstars would be surely something the new owners of the UFC will give a thought to. After all, the possible fight may surpass the pay-per-view buys of ‘Fight of The Century’.
