UFC News: 'The California Kid' Urijah Faber to retire

Urijah Faber has one last foe!

One of the most popular MMA fighters in the lighter divisions of the UFC is Urijah Faber who has been in the sport for a very long time. Known for his ‘nice guy’ character, he is one of the most respected coaches and fighters in the sport. But lately, there have been speculations about The California Kid hanging up his gloves for good.

Now, the former WEC champ has confirmed these rumours to be true.

Faber revealed the facts on Monday’s edition of Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour, stating that his next match with Brad Pickett will be his last:

“I’ve been kind of waiting for this, and this is actually going to be my last fight. And it just feels right to do it in Sacramento in this new area. It just feels like the right time and the right place. I’ve been waiting for this new arena to be built, I was waiting for that Dominick Cruz opportunity and I feel like this is going to be an epic event and I can’t wait to do it in front of the people I love.”

He is stepping into the Octagon for the last time in front of his hometown fans, where his teammates would be in the cage side to cheer for their hero.

To be honest with you, I’m super excited to fight in Sacramento. Those are all my people out there. I built our team, Team Alpha Male, it’s like an extended family to me, and I was raised in the greatest Sacramento area all the way through college. It’s going to be a really cool event. “

Lately, Faber has been falling down hill with only one win in his last four matches. He has had four title fights in the Octagon all of which he lost. However, The California Kid still managed to achieve a fight record of 33 wins and ten losses. He is one of the greatest WEC champions and has defended his WEC Featherweight title on five occasions.

Faber will face his last target, Brad ‘One Punch’ Pickett in UFC on Fox 22, on December 17th, 2016, and then hand in his gear and probably continue to coach the next generations of ‘Team Alpha Males’.`
