UFC News: TJ Dillashaw needs to lose 13 pounds in nine days

What's the story?

UFC Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw is set to face the UFC Flyweight Champion Henry Cejudo in a matter of nine days.

In the first UFC event of the year, TJ Dillashaw will be going down to Flyweight to try and become the fourth fighter to be a Champion of two separate divisions simultaneously.

However, the latest update about the fight is worrying as Dillashaw still has a lot of work to do if he is going to be able to take part in the Championship fight.

In case you didn't know...

For a long time, there were rumours about the UFC Flyweight Division being cancelled altogether.

Demetrious Johnson was traded to ONE Championship in exchange for Ben Askren who made his way over to the UFC.

Other Flyweight fighters were either let go, while some others were asked to move up to Bantamweight.

Then finally Dillashaw said that he had been paid a lot of money by the UFC to move down to the Flyweight Division and take on Cejudo. Thus more rumors spread that if Dillashaw was going to win the fight, the UFC was going to shut down the division altogether.

Thanks to a new contract offered to Joseph Benavidez it appears now, however, that the Flyweight Division isn't going anywhere soon.

The heart of the matter

According to a tweet by Ryan McKinnell, TJ Dillashaw said that he is currently at 138 pounds, but sounded extremely confident about his weight cut.

If he is to make the fight and challenge for the UFC Flyweight Title fight, then he has to lose 13 pounds over the course of the next nine days. That's a lot of weight to lose in such a short time, and can't be easy.

Even if he is able to lose the weight, it will be interesting to see what shape Dillashaw is in ahead of his fight.

What's next?

TJ Dillashaw is set to take on Henry Cejudo for the UFC Flyweight Title at UFC Fight Night 143: Dillashaw vs. Cejudo on the 19th of January.
