UFC News: Tony Ferguson wants Jose Aldo next

No. 2-ranked UFC lightweight Tony ‘El Cucuy’ Ferguson is open to jumping down to featherweight to collide with 145 pound champ Jose Aldo.

One of the biggest and brightest stars in the UFC’s 155 pound division is none other than the No. 2-ranked Tony ‘El Cucuy’ Ferguson, who is coming hot off a unanimous decision win over former division champ Rafael dos Anjos.

Much has been made of who Ferguson’s next opponent may be, with many clamoring for the dream match up between ‘El Cucuy’ and No. 1-ranked Khabib Nurmagomedov next. But according to Ferguson himself (courtesy of MMA Fighting) he is open to dropping down to 145 pounds to challenge featherweight champ Jose Aldo next:

"Maybe Aldo. Jump down to 145, see what's up down there. 155's pretty fun. Maybe bump up to 170. Just thinking about my weight right now, my wife got me this juice cleanse because I was getting kind of heavy. I should step on the scale right now — 185 [pounds]."

Aldo is coming off a win over Frankie Edgar to win the UFC’s interim Featherweight title, however, after former champ Conor McGregor was stripped of his undisputed title, the former Brazilian champ would then be promoted to the undisputed champion of the division instead.

Now Aldo is expected to take on the winner of Max Holloway and Anthony Pettis for unifying the featherweight title at a later date.

Ferguson has yet to be given a bout, however, it is expected that the UFC will do something similar to the featherweight division and implement an interim lightweight championship since McGregor is expected to take 10 months off form in Octagon competition to focus on the birth of his first child.
