UFC News: Tyron Woodley comments on lending Conor McGregor his belt
While the story of the night this past Saturday (November 12, 2016) was Conor McGregor becoming the UFC’s first dual-weight champion, UFC welterweight champ Tyron ‘The Chosen One’ Woodley also had a successful night as he defended his belt against Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson.
After McGregor defeated Eddie Alvarez to win his second title, the UFC did not have two belts at hand for McGregor to hold up in order to celebrate the win, so Woodley allowed the Irishman to use his in order to celebrate.

Woodley was recently a guest on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour to discuss this, he was quoted as saying:
"I was a little frustrated that at that current moment that they needed it, because I needed to take my pictures — you know the pictures they take behind the stage if you win?
I wasn't able to do those pictures because they wanted me to take it without the belt. And it would be a cold day in hell before I'd take any other picture without the belt or come out of the blue corner again.
I didn't get a chance to take those pictures because that moment was going on."
Woodley further went on to state that he would like to see some financial compensation for lending his title to McGregor:
"They told me how great of an individual I was that I would be willing to do something like that and that it just shows the kind of man and character I am. But I've been making some calls, and hopefully they financially express their gratitude as well."
Woodley defended his title against ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson in a five round war for the ages in which both men showed off their respective skill sets, with Woodley showcasing his superior wrestling ability, and Thompson seeming to outclass Woodley on the feet.
Woodley did, however, catch Thompson with a monstrous overhand right that nearly knocked out the karate star, almost finishing the fight with a deep guillotine choke that was masterfully escaped by ‘Wonderboy’.
With the lingering possibility that McGregor and Woodley could be meeting inside the Octagon next, it should be interesting to see how much of a factor the belt situation plays in the potential bout.
