UFC News: Tyron Woodley provides an update on his hand injury, reveals when he will return to the Octagon
What's the story?
While speaking via his official Instagram handle over the weekend, current UFC Welterweight Champion, Tyron Woodley, provided an update on his hand injury and also talked about his upcoming title fight against former Interim Welterweight Champion, Colby Covington.
In case you didn't know...
UFC Welterweight Champion, Tyron Woodley successfully defended his strap against upstart Darren Till at UFC 228, making the English challenger tap out to a D'Arce Choke in what was pretty much a one-sided fight.
During the fight though, Woodley ended up breaking his hand and ended up on the sidelines for 8-12 weeks. However, it now looks like the current Welterweight Champion of the UFC is all set to make a grand return to Octagon competition, as he is all set to make a return to fighting in 2019 once again.
The heart of the matter
Speaking on his Instagram, Tyron Woodley stated that he is apparently hoping to headline UFC 233 in Anaheim, California in early 2019, as he is almost healed up and all set to make his return to the Octagon.
Woodley has claimed that his hand is seemingly doing a lot better, and he's also cleared to fight in early 2019 as well. (H/T: MMA Fighting)
“My hand is doing well, healing up nicely. I’m cleared to fight at the top of next year so the UFC is trying to figure out when I’m fighting. We already know who I’m fighting. January, February, March, one of those months. I’m looking at January 26 real closely.
It’s kinda close though on my hand so we’ll see. If I can do it, you better believe it’s done. If I can’t do it then we might see me fighting in Vegas on March 2nd or London. I kinda don’t want to fight out of the country but I’m not gonna be trying to pick the location.”
As far as his first opponent after his return is concerned, there is no doubt in the fact that Woodley is going to be facing off against former training partner and former UFC Interim Welterweight Champion, Colby Covington.
“Colby used to be my warmup guy. I hate to break the news to you, but I used to pay him to beat him up. 500 bucks a week plus food plus hotel plus rental car plus gun range plus entertainment plus personal trainers, pad work, massage therapy, yoga. I spoiled the little waste of sperm, now all of a sudden he’s bumping his gums.”
What's next?
UFC 233 takes place on 26 January 2019, and another mouth-watering fight between two Welterweights in the form of Robbie Lawler and the debuting Ben Askren has been confirmed for the event. Will Woodley and Covington main event the card? Only time will tell what's in store.
