UFC News: Tyron Woodley wants to fight Nick Diaz at UFC 209

Tyron Woodley wants Nick Diaz for UFC 209

While popular belief suggests that Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley is heading into an immediate rematch with Stephen Thompson following their draw at UFC 205, T-Wood has another potential matchup in mind.

As per Fightsday.com, Woodley is vouching for a much more lucrative matchup with a returning Nate Diaz at UFC 209 and has seemingly sidestepped from a rematch with the Wonderboy. The Stockton native has recently been cleared to continue his MMA career by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, after issues revolving around unpaid fines were finally resolved.

A few days ago, CagePotato.com made the unusual claim through their official Twitter account. The post was retweeted by none other that The Chosen One himself!

However, it would be bizarre move on the part of UFC, to give Diaz an immediate title match. By the time UFC 209 comes along, Diaz would have completed two years away from the cage; not to mention his record prior to his sabbatical. He lost three straight fight before being suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Moreover, Wonderboy stands in the poll position to challenge Woodley for the UFC Welterweight Championship, after an exceptional win streak followed by a majority draw against the Champ at UFC 205.

UFC 209 is scheduled to take place on 4th March in Las Vegas, Nevada. Therefore, UFC still has sufficient time to mull over their options. As of now, Wonderboy seems to be the frontrunner for the title opportunity, while Diaz may find himself elsewhere on the 209 card.
