UFC News: Undefeated UFC Champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk wants to retire soon
One of the most dominant female fighters on the planet, the Polish striker, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, indicates her time in the Octagon will soon end. Jedrzejczyk will make history as she will be the first female UFC champion to defend her title in Madison Square Garden at UFC 205, against fellow Polish, Karolina Kowalkiewicz.
However, amidst all the glory, she wants to be a ‘perfect mother’ and a ‘perfect wife’. She opened up on her feeling as she spoke to Mmafighting.com:
“I had the thought in my head a year ago, two years ago I was like, ‘I want to fight two more years,’ and then this year I was like, ‘Maybe I’ll fight to next year or next few years and be done with that,’ I like to be [a] healthy person. I like to be focused on my things. Now I’m trying to be the best athlete ever. I left my family, my fiance, my friends. I left my everything in Poland, but I’m trying to be the best in the world, and I’m proving that every single day for myself. There are no excuses.”
The Polish Champ currently is focused on defending her title and continuing her undefeated streak, but the most important thing for her is her family.
“When (I retire) I’m going to be the perfect wife or perfect mother. I want to be the same, (and give) 100 percent. I know I’m not retiring in two months or beginning of the next year because then I will want to come back and have a fight with someone who is important. My goal is to make my dreams come true, my goals come true, and be undefeated. Fight for the next few fights and then see what’s going to happen. That’s my goal.”
Until now, no woman has been able to outstrike her, thus creating a clean record of 12 wins with no losses. Her kickboxing experience has helped her in defending her title successfully thrice.
Keeping aside the retirement plans, she has also expressed her desire to become a two-division UFC champion. And so has been campaigning for introducing a women’s flyweight category.
Her rival, Kowalkiewicz, has stated that despite the fact that Jedrzejczyk is her idol, she will not hesitate to take her belt away. You can catch the action on Sony ESPN, Sony ESPN HD and Sony Six at 8:30 a.m (IST) on Sunday, November 13th.
