UFC Rumors: Jon Jones vs Dominick Reyes potentially confirmed; Date revealed
Jon Jones handpicked Dominick Reyes as his next opponent, determining him to be a more dangerous opponent than his alternate option - Corey Anderson. Given that Jones last fought in July, he seemed to want to get back as soon as possible and with no contender available, he waited out until the end of the year to get a clear picture as to who his next contender would be.
He got his answer after Dominick Reyes knocked Chris Weidman out in the first round and Brett Okamoto of ESPN has confirmed that Jones vs Reyes will headline the February 8th UFC PPV, which is expected to be UFC 247.
This is the perfect time for the PPV to take place as UFC 246 on January 18th is set to be headlined by the returning Conor McGregor (who, in turn, is expected to face Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone). Reyes proposed an idea in an interview where he would headline the card with Jones with McGregor as the main event, but it's unrealistic to expect Jones and McGregor to fight on the same card.
This is an exciting challenge for Jones and it'll be interesting to see how Reyes matches up against Jones. The Light Heavyweight Champion had one of his toughest challenges to date a few months ago when he was taken to the limit by Thiago Santos (who many, including Brett Okamoto, believe won the fight).
Fans called for a rematch against Santos, but the Brazillian contender busted his knee and will be out of action for a while. Until then, Jones has his plate full, with Reyes on the horizon and Corey Anderson eagerly waiting for a title shot.
Another name thrown in the hat for Jones is Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya, who he has been trading Twitter shots with for a few months now.
