When ex-UFC champion explained why Jorge Masvidal would be perfect opponent for Conor McGregor: "This is a good fight"

Former two division champion Henry Cejudo wanted to see Conor McGregor versus Jorge Masvidal showdown at 170 pounds.

In October 2022, via his personal YouTube channel, Cejudo outlined the top five welterweight opponents that McGregor could face in a return to the octagon.

In this throwback video regarding McGregor and Masvidal, Cejudo said:

"I'm doing this according to the style that I think Conor could have success with. So I'm about to go number one, Jorge Masvidal. This is a good fight for Conor McGregor, why? It's because there's really no grappling involved. You want guys that can strike and that want to strike and don't want to grapple."

He added:

"Plus, Jorge Masvidal, he hasn't won a fight in; I think he's on a three or four fight losing streak. Something like that, I don't know. I could be wrong. But I think Jorge Masvidal would be the best return for him. 170 pounds, they both have the mouth piece. Just imagine how many pay-per-views they could sell."

'Triple C' mentioned the winner of Usman vs Edwards trilogy for the UFC welterweight championship, Kevin Holland, Paddy Pimblett, and Colby Covington as potential opponents of 'The Notorious' at 170 pounds.

Conor McGregor and the welterweight return he ended up getting

Conor McGregor is returning at 170 pounds but is not lined up with any of the potential opponents that Henry Cejudo suggested over a year and a half ago.

The 35-year-old is set to collide with Michael Chandler at UFC 303, although this pay-per-view headliner on June 29 is still a bit up in the air.

The native of Ireland was set to be involved in a Dublin press conference earlier in the week that was called off at the last minute. This threw up red flags for some but the McGregor versus Chandler bout is still locked in as of this writing.

Meanwhile, Jorge Masvidal will clash with Nate Diaz in the inaugural BMF title fight, albeit inside the boxing ring on July 6.
