When Ian Machado Garry's "child abuser" comment triggered dire consequences for a UFC veteran: "I'm literally fighting for custody"

While trash talk is a staple of combat sports, Ian Machado Garry seemingly did real harm to his opponent's personal life with his verbal jibes ahead of their UFC 292 matchup.

During his rise among the welterweight ranks, the outspoken Irishman took on perennial welterweight contender Neil Magny. Much like any other UFC pre-fight pressers, theirs were also rich with quick-witted insults and vehement clapbacks.

This time, however, the trash talks took a turn for the worse as they ended up affecting Magny's personal life. For context, during a media segment, Magny proclaimed that he'd be dishing out a father-like beating to his opponent when they meet in the cage.

'The Future' however took the insult quite literally and clapped back at the 37-year-old seemingly labeling him a child abuser, saying:

"There is no f*****g right to ever put your hand on a kid ever, [to] discipline [them] anything. Mate you're a father, you never f*****g lay your hands on a child."

Unfortunately, Garry's comments triggered dire consequences for Magny's custody battle for his children. During an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda MMA ahead of UFC 297, 'The Haitian Sensation' said:

"[Garry's statement] in itself had a lot more consequence than just like nonsense at the press conference. There were literally screenshots being taken of headlines saying that I'm a child abuser and I'd do this to my kids... That would be admissible in court where I'm literally fighting for custody of my children."

When Ian Machado Garry explained how Neil Magny's comments fueled him

Ian Machado Garry is a father and was particularly upset with Neil Magny's comments at the UFC 292 pre-fight presser. Sure enough, 'The Future' didn't bury the hatchet with his opponent even after the fight.

Addressing the media following his win over 'The Haitian Sensation', the Irishman explained how his opponent's distasteful comments had fueled him for the fight:

"Magny is a sc*mbag... the sh*t he said at that press conference... I was like what did he just say?... Oh my goodness, you cannot say something like that and get away with it... [I brought some thing out of me] F*****g right it did, justice."
