When Joe Rogan explained why "gross" Olympic Games were "disgusting money grab" events: "The athletes don't get d*ck"

Joe Rogan once explained why he believes the Olympic Games are merely money-making events that primarily benefit large corporations, while the athletes themselves see little of the financial gains.

The modern Olympic Games are the premier global sporting event, attracting thousands of athletes from around the world to compete in a wide range of competitions every four years. While it is considered the pinnacle of athletic achievement, Rogan believes the Olympics are far from beneficial for the participants.

During an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience (JRE) in February 2018, the veteran UFC commentator described the Olympics as "gross." He further criticized the stakeholders for generating billions in revenue while failing to adequately compensate the athletes:

"I think the Olympics are gross. I think it's a great opportunity for all those athletes. I think it's great for people to watch it, but I think it is a f**king disgusting money grab. All those amateur air quotes athletes don't get paid sh*t, and these companies are making billions and billions of dollars off of them. I really wish they would all quit."

Rogan added:

"Meanwhile, the athletes don't get d*ck. If you're lucky and you're Michael Phelps, you become famous out of it, and you get a bunch of commercials and endorsements, and you make a sh*tload of money that way. But how many Michael Phelps' are there?"

The 33rd edition of the Summer Olympics is currently underway in Paris, France. This year's games mark a historic first, as the Olympic Committee will directly compensate winning athletes, awarding $50,000 to each gold medalist.

Prior to this year's changes, athletes usually earned income through personal sponsorships and received financial support from their respective national Olympic organizations.

Joe Rogan loses top Spotify spot to Tucker Carlson as JD Vance clip goes viral

Joe Rogan's podcast has been dethroned from its top spot on Spotify by The Tucker Carlson Show. This recent shuffle follows the viral resurgence of a clip featuring the conservative political commentator's interview with Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance.

The polarizing clip originates from a 2021 episode of the now-canceled 'Tucker Carlson Show' on Fox News, where Vance criticized U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris. He controversially claimed that childless individuals, like Harris, have no stake in the country's future.

The interview has sparked increased interest in Carlson, resulting in a surge of attention that has temporarily displaced JRE from its position as Spotify's top podcast in the U.S.
