When Joe Rogan heaped praise on "f**king monster" Demetrious Johnson for "fighting correctly"

Six years ago, on episode #37 of the JRE MMA Show, Joe Rogan praised flyweight great Demetrious Johnson. 'Mighty Mouse' has always been commended for his technical excellence and well-rounded skill set, relying on a balanced blend of elite striking, wrestling, and grappling.

Rogan, who has always regarded himself as an admirer of skill and technique, spoke to former Muay Thai kickboxer Mark DellaGrotte back in 2018, where he, for all intents and purposes, described Johnson as the perfect fighter.

"Just as a rough example. If there was a way to defend an armbar that wasn't the correct way to do it but the fans liked it more, don't do that. Don't do that. You want to fight like a maestro. You want to fight like a virtuoso. You want to fight like 'Mighty Mouse.' That's what I tell everybody."

The longtime UFC commentator elaborated, highlighting the technical evolution that Johnson underwent during his UFC tenure, before detailing exactly how he believes 'Mighty Mouse' fights in a manner superior to his peers.

"In my opinion, one of the things that sets him apart from everybody else is that he's not running away from you and not getting hit. He's running at you and not getting hit. He's coming straight forward and then cutting angles and doing things that you didn't anticipate and he's not there for the counter. So he's fighting correctly."

Johnson would go on to author an all-time great career, defending his UFC flyweight title a record 11 times, which is more than any other champion, regardless of division, in the promotion's history. Thereafter, he departed from the UFC before capturing the ONE Championship flyweight title.

Joe Rogan has even hailed Demetrious Johnson as the best fighter in history

While Joe Rogan has praised the likes of Jon Jones and retired unbeaten legends like Khabib Nurmagomedov, he once described Demetrious Johnson, who recently retired from MMA, as the best-ever fighter in terms of technique and skill. He said as much on episode #2128 of his podcast when talking to Joey Diaz.

"He's probably the best ever in terms of of just pure martial arts technique."
