UFC News: Max Holloway and Anthony Pettis to collide at UFC 206, in Toronto
A bombshell has been dropped by UFC matchmakers; featherweight prospect, Max ‘Blessed’ Holloway, is scheduled to fight former UFC Lightweight Champion, Anthony Pettis, at UFC 206, on December 10th in Toronto, Canada.
The two fighter have waited for big fights for a long time and, finally, the two Superstars will collide in what could be a classic bout. The news of the scheduling was revealed by the UFC website last night. It was also reported by TSN on Wednesday, who stated they had received confirmation from the promotion.
After Showtime’s recent unsuccessful attempt to regain glory in the lightweight division, Pettis dropped down to the featherweight division to try his luck fighting at a lower weight. He gained instant success in his debut fight at 145 pounds, after finishing fellow UFC fighter Charles Oliveira via submission.
He became the former UFC Lightweight king when he submitted former UFC fighter, Benson Henderson. Later, he successfully defended the belt against Gilbert Melendez.
One of the most successful fighters amongst the younger generations of stars is Max Holloway. He was truly ‘blessed’ with an opportunity of fighting in the UFC at the age of 20. Now, at 24 the young prospect has amassed a record of nine straight wins inside the Octagon, with six of them coming through ‘finishes’.
It’s only been days since Holloway challenged UFC Interim Champion Jose Aldo to a fight. However, Aldo lacks any interest to fight in the Octagon, due to the controversial treatment by the UFC. Therefore, Holloway is forced to fight the next best star available.
A win over the former lightweight champion ‘Showtime’ Pettis, will send the young Hawaiin skyrocketing in the featherweight rankings.
