Atlyss: 7 beginner tips
Atlyss is a love letter to the golden days of Diablo, WoW Classic, and other great MMORPGs. With its retro-styled visuals, simple yet in-depth mechanics, and an overall wholesome feel, thousands of players, including me, were hooked from day one. However, don’t be fooled by its simplistic charms — there’s a decent amount of complexity and depth present in this game that can make some beginners struggle in their early games.
To help you stand on your two feet as early as you can, we have shared seven tips for Atlyss that can be very effective in helping you excel in the game.
7 tips to know in Atlyss
1) Best spot for early-game grinding
The Sanctum Catacombs are ideal for early leveling and loot. With three difficulty brackets, you can challenge enemies slightly above your level for faster experience gain. Dying here isn’t punishing, as you respawn nearby, allowing you to continuously grind. This area also provides a chance to find weapons and gear from chests, preparing you for tougher areas and helping you reach level 10 quickly to select a class.

2) Use the Recovery Skill more often
The Recovery Skill is essential for survival. It enables slow HP regeneration at the cost of MP, which refills naturally. Since it can’t be activated during combat or while taking hits, use it strategically outside of fights or while retreating. Pair this skill with high Vitality to maximize its effectiveness. Unlocking it as your first skill ensures better sustainability during exploration and reduces reliance on consumables.
3) Keep this in mind while choosing your race
Your race determines your initial skill, which plays a key role in the early game. Each race’s unique ability caters to different playstyles, so pick one that aligns with how you like to play. While you can eventually learn other races' skills via scrolls, this happens much later, making your initial skill crucial for early survival and progress. Experimenting with different races can help you understand their strengths and weaknesses, especially during solo games.
4) Recall is your best friend
The Recall skill is your best tool for exploration in Atlyss. It allows you to instantly return to the Sanctum to manage your inventory, restock supplies, or turn in quests. After using Recall, you can teleport back to your last active teleport point outside the Sanctum, saving time and effort. It’s a convenient way to maintain your progress without the hassle of backtracking manually.

5) Learn how to effectively and consistently parry
Parrying is one of the most valuable combat techniques in Atlyss. The game’s generous parry window gives you quite an easy learning curve, but success still relies on mastering enemy attack animations. A successful parry stuns enemies, giving you time to launch counterattacks. Parrying multiple enemies simultaneously is also possible, but in boss battles, prioritize blocking instead, as their attacks can be harder to parry.
6) Use the Jump attacks
Jump attacks are a versatile combat tool, especially when dealing with swarms of enemies. The ability to dash through enemies while dealing damage lets you stay mobile and avoid getting surrounded. This strategy is particularly effective against tougher foes when direct engagement isn’t possible. Incorporate jump attacks into your combat style to maintain control over chaotic battles.
7) Invest in Vitality
Vitality directly increases your maximum health in Atlyss, making it one of the most important stats to prioritize. Low-level enemies can overwhelm you easily, so having a larger health pool significantly boosts your survivability. Additionally, high Vitality improves the healing efficiency of the Recovery Skill. By focusing on this stat early, you reduce your chances of dying and restarting from teleport points.
