Complete Brighter Shores Foraging Profession guide: How to forage, leveling tips, and more

Foraging is arguably Brighter Shores' most straightforward profession to start, as you do a test run in the tutorial itself. This is essentially the basic gathering skill in this MMORPG, letting you collect different materials and paraphernalia in Hopeport. Other than contributing to your total level, Foraging also laterally supports other professions, such as Alchemy, and it's also a way to make money that can pay off at higher levels.

In this guide, we have shared everything you will need to know to start improving Foraging in Brighter Shores.

Note: This guide is based on what we've learned from the Early Access build of Brighter Shores; some elements may be subject to change in the future.

The Forager profession in Brighter Shores is an early game basic skill you can improve by gathering natural resources that also help other professions like Chef and Alchemist.

By collecting various items found throughout the game world, the forager profession helps other professions get a steady supply of materials for their crafting. If you level up Forager, not only will you level up your character much more efficiently, but also get easy access to ingredients for Alchemy, which is arguably the most important Profession in Hopeport.

Initially, you can gather basic resources without any special tools by simply clicking on an item and choosing the “Forage” action. Use these resources to get started and gain early Forager XP. However, as you progress, more specialized tools are required to access rarer and higher-tier ingredients.

Foragable materials do not reset if you exit the tile and come back. Instead, they passively respawn after 45 seconds. You can use this timing to plan efficient foraging routes, instead of waiting for them to respawn.

Essential foraging tools:

Foraging requires specific tools that unlock higher-tier items as you level up. Here is a breakdown of the tools you will need:

  • Secateurs (unlocks at Forager level 2): Required to gather certain plants, such as creamy wallplants and white periwinkles.
  • Trowel (unlocks at Forager level 6): Allows you to dig up certain roots and tubers.
  • Pond Net (unlocks at Forager level 10): Used to collect various water-based plants and creatures.

These tools come in different tiers as you progress, with higher-tier versions unlocking at specific levels, which you can purchase at the Forager’s Warehouse in Hopeport. You can also enchant these tools at the Enchantress Shop nearby for a slight XP boost with each use.

Tools can be bought at the Forager’s Warehouse located in Hopeport's northeast corner on Old Street East. The initial tier of Secateurs, available at level 2, costs 13 silver and 200 copper. This may be costly for new players, so consider selling items you forage or exploring other professions to gather the necessary funds.

Here are some quick ways to earn currency through professions:

  • Guard: Sell equipment drops at the Training Grounds' Quartermaster.
  • Chef: Sell cooked recipes to the Head Chef at The Delectable Dab.
  • Fisher: Sell fish to Melv’s Fishing Supplies in the Town Square.
  • Forager: Sell foraged materials directly to Ella in the Forager's Warehouse.
  • Alchemist: Sell crafted potions at The Apothecary Shop on Stone Street.

An efficient money-making way is to level Chef alongside Forager. Purchase Bread and Raw Bacon from Kevin's Ingredients near the Training Grounds, cook Bacon Sandwiches, and sell them to the Head Chef.

Why would you need Secateurs in Brighter Shores?

Secateurs are your first specialized tool in foraging needed to gather more advanced plants. At Forager level 2, you can use Secateurs to collect creamy wallplants—a key ingredient for Alchemists creating 20% Healing Potions by combining it with brown kelp. Later, at level 4, you can gather white periwinkles to craft 5% Hopeport Experience potions, which boost XP gains for a limited time.

How to level up Forager in Bright Shore?

To level up Forager efficiently, focus on consistently gathering the highest-level items available. Foraging nodes generally respawn quickly and are often located in pairs, so you can create a loop between them for continuous gathering.

For an added boost, use Hopeport XP potions (crafted through Alchemy), which increase XP gain by 5% for 2 minutes. Many of the ingredients required for these potions (White Periwinkle and Horn Shell) are also gathered through foraging, so leveling both professions together can be mutually beneficial.

It's also advisable to split your inventory space for forage materials that are used as reagents in the same potion recipe, especially those found in adjacent areas.

For example, the +40 Arborae Strength Potion uses Pond Weed and Bell Plants, which can be found in Overgrown Pond, Rubble Road, and Overgrown Field. Split your inventory space equally between the two so you can go back to batch-cook the potions. This way, you can level up the Alchemy alongside Foraging, which is the intended way to progress the two. Check out our Alchemist Profession guide for a more detailed early-game Foraging route for this purpose.

Once you reach Forager level 20, passive activities become available, letting you earn Forager XP even while offline. Although slower than manual gathering, this option is great if you plan to take a break or switch to another character.
