Brighter Shores Premium Pass explained: Pricing, perks, and should you buy it?

Brighter Shores is an initially free-to-play game, but those who want to experience it fully will have to purchase its monthly subscription, i.e., the Premium Pass. This new MMORPG has four episodes (story acts) on its early-access release, and you can only play the first two free of cost. There's a whole swath of other perks on the Premium Pass too, and that's what we're going to detail in this article.

Note that all of what we say here only tracks for the current early-access release of Brighter Shores. The game will evolve and change by the time it's ready for a full release, and that means the Premium Pass is subject to change too.

Note: Parts of this article are speculative and subject to change.

How much would you have to pay for the Premium Pass in Brighter Shores?

The Brighter Shores Premium Pass costs $5.99 (USD) per month. There are also bundled options where you can buy multiple months at a discounted rate for a one-off payment:

  • 90-day Pass: $23.99
  • 365-day Pass: $74.99

The monthly sub can be purchased from the character selection screen right after you log in. Before you select a character slot, find the Purchase Premium Pass option at the top-left corner.

In its early access, Brighter Shores' Premium Pass is set to unlock episodes 3 and 4 (Mine of Mantuban and Crenopolis). Without it, you can only advance the story up to episodes 1 and 2. The episodes also correspond to new regions, so this translates to roughly twice as much raw content.

Outside of fully unlocked content, the main draw for Brighter Shore's Premium Pass is player customization. Until you buy the monthly sub for the first time, the game will generate a username ID for you temporarily. Once you get the Premium Pass and reach Episode 4, you can pick a unique name for yourself.

Additionally, this unlocks the ability to change your name (when you have an active monthly sub) and use unique character armor dyes. While the game is relatively new, those who want to stick to the endgame will also need the Premium Pass just for the player-to-player trading alone. At the time of writing, p2p trading is only available to subscribed players.

Should you buy the Brighter Shores Premium Pass?

The Brighter Shores Premium Pass is a must-purchase if you like the game. If not for the unique name and other MMO-specific perks, players who want to just beat the currently available story content will have to buy the sub once.

Thankfully, this is where the game is also well-designed in how it implements the premium. Episodes 1 and 2 are essentially a trial period with a substantial amount of free content, which will help you decide whether you like Brighter Shores enough to support the developers and buy the sub.
